One Man Against SPAM: Your Servant, Bob Servant… (RTFM Education)
One of the things I’ve been tuning into on BBC Radio4 is the serialization of the now famous “Bob Servant” emails on the radio. In case you don’t know – Bob Servant is a fictional creation of Neil Forsyth – who took into his head to reply to those regular emails you get from bereaved Nigerian Princes who need help moving millions of dollars out of accounts, or...

Best of 2010 (VMGuru.nl - I choose (a virtual) life!)
We’re less than twelve hours away from 2011 and we’re bombarded with Top 2010 rankings. And with a great 2010 behind us I can’t resist to do a VMGuru – Best of 2010. My personal highlights for 2010 are my new job at Imtech, the trip to VMworld Europe in Copenhagen and of course the [...]

Top yellow-bricks posts of 2010 (Yellow Bricks)
My colleague Eric Gray blogged about “VCritical’s” top 10 this morning and I figured why not do the same… here we go:
While many posts from previous years have proven to be evergreen, and among the most heavily trafficked, these are the top posts on Yellow-Bricks published in 2010:
ESXTOP
VMotion, the story and confessions
What’s the point of setting “-iops=...

Most viewed posts in 2010 (ESX Virtualization)
There are post which gets more traffic then the others. Why?
This post will not invent anything, I had the most busy year ever with my VMworld 2010 in Copenhagen, which was a nice break from work but very intense with no rest there… and, the end of the year is the busiest ever with a move to the new company’s building at the Technopole area with new IP telephony system ...

Best of 2010 (VCritical)
As the year comes to a close, let’s take a look back at some VCritical highlights.
I was pleased to earn recognition as a top virtualization influencer and managed to hold on to a spot in the vSphere-land Top 25 VMware Blogs roster. This year I also published The VCritical Manifesto to clearly disclose my motivation.
Before getting into the lists, I’d like to thank the readers, sub...

Technology Short Take #9 (blog.scottlowe.org)
Welcome to Technology Short Take #9, the last Technology Short Take for 2010. In this Short Take, I have a collection of links and articles about networking, servers, storage, and virtualization. Of note this time around: some great DCI links, multi-hop FCoE finally arrives (sort of), a few XenServer/XenDesktop/XenApp links, and NTFS defragmentation in the virtualized data center. Here you go...

2010.Close; 2011.Open; (Nickapedia)
What a year it has been. From just a personal level 2010 has been my banner year so far. I have got more done, met more cool people, had more fun, and learned more than I would have ever thought possible. Here is just a short list of things that have happened for me (in no particular order)
Left my career as a customer and joined EMC in the vSpecialist squad
Created the UBER Celerra VSA (and ac...

Node Interleaving: Enable or Disable? (frankdenneman.nl)
There seems to be a lot of confusion about this BIOS setting, I receive lots of questions on whether to enable or disable Node interleaving. I guess the term “enable” make people think it some sort of performance enhancement. Unfortunately the opposite is true and it is strongly recommended to keep the default setting and leave Node Interleaving disabled.
Node interleaving option only on NU...

Creating a vApp : UBER UIM (Nickapedia)
I recently jumped in to help my team create a vAppliance for Unified Infrastructure Manager (UIM). This was to help enable both the EMC and Cisco field teams to demo and standup proof of concepts. As part of this I decided to try and create a web-only wizard for setting up the appliance. I used a combination of PHP/Perl/Bash and smashing my head on the keyboard. I made a short uber-video (just c...

Install Androidx86 in a VMware Workstation VM (VM /ETC)
I was inspired to try a full install of the Androidx86 OS in a VMware Workstation VM after Eric Sloof created a video of the Androidx86 LiveCD running in a vSphere VM. I’ve documented building the VM and configuring it to run in this post. I also list some navigation tips for getting around inside Androidx86. Finally check out my video of the working VM.
Since most are probably wondering I...

Binding a vCloud Director Provider vDC to an ESX Host? (Yellow Bricks)
One of our partners was playing around with vCloud Director and noticed that they could create a Provider vDC and link it directly to an ESX Host. vCloud Director did not complain about it so they figured it would be okay. However it is a requirement for vCloud Director to have DRS. One of the reasons for this being is the fact that vCloud Director leverages resource pools to ensure tenants rece...

How to identify the origin of a vSphere login? (virtuallyGhetto)
There was a pretty interesting post on the VMTN community forums recently in which a user was trying to identify a rogue vSphere login to their vCenter Server. Unfortunately, the actual user was not able to pin-point which system was logging in with his/her credentials. This potentially could have been some type of automated script that was configured and running and now has been forgotten. The ...

Feliz Navidad (NTPRO.NL - Eric Sloof)
This year I won’t send any Christmas and happy new year cards. Instead of sending those cards I will support the Net4kids foundation. As an ambassador for Net4kids I’m proud to see that the money this foundation receives is well spent on important projects . Net4kids is the internet market place for child aid projects. With Net4kids you choose for concrete child aid rather than ano...
